Congreso is a nationally recognized, community based non-profit organization that primarily serves the neighborhoods of Eastern North Philadelphia where the majority of the city's Latino population resides. This area is a culturally vibrant community challenged by issues of poverty, access to health care, low educational attainment and unemployment. Founded in 1977 as a grassroots organization providing health services to the region's Puerto Rican community, Congreso has responded to the community's changing demographics and evolving needs for more than 30 years by growing into a multifaceted, comprehensive provider of human services.

Congreso provides services in four main areas: Education, Employment, Family Support, and Health and Wellness. The agency employs over 300 staff and volunteers to provide more than 50 individual and family-oriented programs. The organization provided direct services to over 18,000 individuals and touched the lives of thousands more through outreach and education during fiscal year 2007.

Education

Congreso strengthens children, young adults and families through integrated services and provides opportunities for community and self-development. For instance, we recently open the Pan American Academy Charter School, which combines a global, multicultural approach in the classroom. Congreso also offers its services to Pan American students and their families. (More info)
